Scuola di Rondine

Rondine, headquarters of an organization called Rondine Cittadella della Pace which actively engages in the reduction of armed conflicts in the world and aims at the collective education and training of young people from countries at war, is a medieval village a few kilometres from Arezzo.

We were called to form a working group to give support to the artistic direction during the expansion works of the old school of the village through the choice of external and internal finishes that would characterize it, as a symbol of rebirth.

It is precisely the conflict that emerges in the characterization of the main elevation where soft lines and soft colours contrast with the sculpture composed of hard lines and gloomy colours: the coexistence of conflict, of wounds, and the will to move forward looking at a clear future without forget.

Crossing the threshold of "conflict" to be reborn, thanks to knowledge and culture.

The internal environments, those of the rebirth, instead create that idyllic place, immersion in the "tree-lined avenue", with discussion and sharing environments thanks to classrooms designed to be joined together by movable walls, immersive environments with video projections, walls - blackboards and the tree of life placed in the centre of the staircase, all characterized by materials and colours that recall the peace of nature.

Formation and sharing between cultures do not take place only within the school environment, but also outside, in the school garden. The "external" classrooms become "squares" or an open-air theatre, through terracing that shapes the terrain. Inspired by the painting "Flora on sand" by Klee (1927), we divided the garden area into rows to be cultivated as a vegetable garden or in flowery meadows that change during the seasons.

We work together united by the same great passion for the word "Home" and all the wonderful world it contains.
